Q5. What role can mosques play in leading discussions about palliative care or end-of-life interventions?

Masjid boleh buat senaman dan aktiviti bagi warga tua selain membantu beri peringatan solat dan kuliah ilmu.

I believe mosques can play a very central role in helping adult children prepare themselves on the spiritual aspects of palliative care &/or end-of-life interventions.

For a start, the mosque will have to emphasise the need for our community to go beyond the current trend of adult children picking up knowledge&skills of jenazah management.

While it is understandable that we all would want to be equipped well with proper knowledge and skills as we do the honour of performing the last rites for our senior parents upon their demise, there must also be efforts to equip adult children on how they could provide spiritual support to their seniors in the last stage of their lives.

Given the fast-aging society that we live in today, we must develop a unique SG Muslim community culture that welcomes conversations about senior caregiving that goes beyond the usual spiritual aspects. It's time for our community to welcome open discourse on eldercare esp on matters that may revolve around ethics, for example.
