The men within our Muslim community today, as well as women with very domesticated outlook towards how fellow women should traditionally behave, will need to update their idea of fellow Muslim women and their participations in civic engagements.
We are not short of such active Muslim women as role models. Just look around today and back in our own local history. Our women in history showed equally good records (if not better) when it comes to community organising.
And these active and vocal women should be embraced and celebrated by our community.
These women are carrying on the legacy of our Ummul Mu'minin, Sayyidatina 'Aisyah r.a. who was dignified, learned, opinionated, vocal and able to command an army during her youth. Aisyah wasn't some dainty woman which a pop song from our neighbouring country, "Aisyah Istri Rasulullah" tried to portray.
